SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Lucille Presley of North Chicago on Thursday, April 21, 2005; and

WHEREAS, She was born in Canton, Mississippi, to Louis and Hattie Brown; she was united in marriage to Rufus Presley, Sr., on November 16, 1936, in Sledge, Mississippi; he preceded her in death; and

WHEREAS, She relocated with her family to North Chicago in 1948; she was a member of the Mount Sinai Baptist Church and was a dedicated member of the Willing Workers and Flower Clubs; and

WHEREAS, She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Mattie Frazier and Elnora Presley; her son, Robert Presley; her grandson, Franklin Presley; her sisters, Classie Young, Hattie Starnes, Louise Barnes, Bertha Powell, and Sonia Harper; her brothers, Leon Brown, Rufus Brown, Walter Brown, Copeland Brown, Soloman Brown, J.B. Brown, James Brown, Louis Brown, and Raymond Rogers; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Mrs. Presley has been deeply felt by many, especially her daughters, Jeannie (Arthur Bailey) Presley, Ruthia (William) Mayo, Maria (Tony Callahan) Presley, Irene (Bill) Mayfield, and Dorothy (Acho) Ingram; her sons, Rufus, Jr., (Betty Banks), Henry (Terry), Leo (Sherian), and Leroy (Regina); her sisters, Minnie Parker, Willie Dean Chapman, Arquilla Porter, Thelma (Sylvester) Milton, Cubbie Flemings, Betty Williams, and Celeola (Ben) Evans; her brothers, James Brown and John Brown; her sisters-in-law, Maggie Brown and Quincy Brown; her many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; a special friend, Ms. Pearl Warren; and a special "daughter", Ms. Elizabeth (Gage) Gilmore; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lucille Presley, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
