SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with much sadness of the combat death in Iraq of Lance
4 Corporal Sean P. Maher, U.S.M.C., of Grayslake on Wednesday,
5 February 2, 2005; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Sean was born on March 19, 1985, to Daniel C.
7 Maher and Janet R. Maher; he graduated from Warren High School
8 in June of 2003, where he was a superior athlete, a talented
9 defense linebacker, and a valuable part of the swimming team;
10 and
 
11     WHEREAS, On his eighteenth birthday and before graduating
12 high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps; he graduated
13 from recruit training on November 20, 2003, at Marine Corps
14 Recruit Depot, San Diego, California; he attended the advance
15 weapon school at Camp Pendleton and graduated in January of
16 2004; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Maher was assigned to Hawaii for
18 his permanent duty station; he was a member of Weapons Company,
19 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine, 31st Marines Expeditionary Unit, 1st
20 Marine Division; on October 5, 2004, he reported for duty in
21 Iraq; and
 
22     WHEREAS, He was tragically killed in action from small arms
23 fire while conducting combat operations in the Al Anbar
24 Province and has been recommended for the Purple Heart; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Sean was a young man who always had a kind word
26 for a friend or neighbor; he was the type of son that would
27 make any mother or father proud; his kindness touched many
28 people in a gentle way; and
 
29     WHEREAS, The passing of Lance Corporal Sean P. Maher has

1 been deeply felt by many, especially his father, Daniel C.
2 Maher; his mother, Janet R. Maher; his sister, Katrina J.
3 Maher; his sister-in-law, Rebecca Maher; and his brother,
4 Daniel C. Maher II, who is currently in the service of this
5 country in the United States Navy; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8 Lance Corporal Sean P. Maher, and we extend our deepest
9 sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
10 him; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lance Corporal Maher
12 and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him
13 making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to his family as an expression of our sincere
16 condolences for their loss.
