SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Ruth Payne Jones on February 23, 2006; and

WHEREAS, She was born on March, 21, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest of five children of Ruth Bush Payne and Willis Newton Payne; she graduated from Sumner High School in 1946 and attended Stowe Teacher's College in St. Louis; she married Virgil James Jones in 1955 and relocated to Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Jones' first job was at an encyclopedia company, and later she worked as a medical clerk for the Illinois Department of Public Aid; she spent the majority of her professional career at the Chicago Housing Authority; during her 28-year tenure, she held a variety of positions at housing developments across the city; her position prior to retirement was as an income receiver; upon retirement, she volunteered at St. Sabina Academy as a tutor and also assisted in the church business office; and

WHEREAS, She was baptized at Holy Angels Catholic Church in South Kinloch, Missouri, in 1948, and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in 1990; she had been a member of St. Sabina Church since 1986, where she served on the Mother's Board, Hospitality, and Usher ministries; she was unwavering in her faith and remained steadfast in her commitment to family, especially her children; she was a devoted mother, and caring grandmother; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Ruth Payne Jones has been deeply felt by many, especially her sister, Georgia Johnson; her children, Gail Terrell (Michael), Keith Andre' Jones, and Virgil James Jones, Jr. (Sharisse); her niece, Patricia Pollock; her grandchildren, Brandy Rogers, Nathaniel Rogers, Jennifer Jones, Pamela Jones, Noah Jones, Asher Jones, Marisia Terrell, Dwayne Terrell, Jennifer Terrell, and Shareem Terrell; her great-grandchildren, Jade Bowen and Curtis Glass; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; she was preceded in death by her siblings, Harriet McCurtis, Willis Payne, Jr., and David Payne; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ruth Payne Jones, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
