SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Leon Welch, who passed away on November 8, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Leon Welch was born July 24, 1936 to Sam and Geanie Welch in Anniston, Alabama; he was one of eight children; and

WHEREAS, He attended Cobb High School where he met Margaret Ann Dobbins, who became his wife; they were married for 49 years and from their union Lisa Darlene and Kathryn Virginia were born; and

WHEREAS, They moved from Anniston to Chicago in 1958 where he worked as a longshoreman for Local 19 for more than thirty years; he later furthered his education, and was the founder of Acetronics Burglar Alarm Systems; he retired as a longshoreman and from his business when his health began to challenge him in 1993; and

WHEREAS, Leon Welch is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Welch; his daughters, Lisa Welch-Austin (Dwight Austin, son-in-law) and Kathryn Welch; his sister, Eunice Jean Murphy (Calvin Murphy, brother-in-law); his brother, J. C. Welch; his grandson, Dwight Leander Austin; his brother-in-law, John Bradford, Jr.; his nieces, Queen Welch and Libra Murphy; his nephews, Charles Welch, Leander Murphy, Keyon Welch, and Rashard Welch; his great nephew, Bashiri Williams; and a host of extended family and close friends; and

WHEREAS, Leon Welch was preceded in death by his mother and father, Geanie Welch and Sam Welch, Sr.; his brothers, Sam and Calvin Welch; his sisters, Jessie Welch, Kathryn Welch, and Ethel Welch-Huff; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Leon Welch; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leon Welch.
