HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Glenview Fire Chief Ralph Ensign on the occasion of his retirement after 43 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Ensign started his career as a firefighter/paramedic with the Winnetka Fire Department in 1976, after earning a bachelor's degree in fire service management from Southern Illinois University; he joined the Highland Park Fire Department in 1978; he was promoted to lieutenant in 1989 and to captain in 1991; in 2008, he was hired as deputy fire chief in Glenview; he was promoted to chief in December 2014; he has also been a paid on-call and paid on-premise firefighter with the Northfield Fire-Rescue Department, where his father retired as assistant chief in 1979; and

WHEREAS, In Glenview, Ralph Ensign was instrumental in the design and construction of Fire Station 6 and planning the replacement for Fire Station 8; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Ensign helped implement a non-department student ride-a-long paramedic training program through Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and a smoke detector installation program for occupancies that did not have operating units; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Ensign was a founding member of and assisted in the development of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division III Hazardous Materials Response Team, which is a partnership of 19 suburban communities created to provide personnel, equipment, and resources to one another when needed; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Ensign has had a tremendous career serving the communities of Northfield, Winnetka, Highland Park, and Glenview; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Glenview Fire Chief Ralph Ensign on his retirement after 43 years of service, and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ralph Ensign as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
