HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Fire Chief Craig A. Haigh on the occasion of his retirement after 33 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Chief Haigh began his fire service career in 1983 as a volunteer in his hometown of Hampton and served as Hampton's volunteer fire chief from 1991 to 1995; he was hired full time as a firefighter with the Rock Island Fire Department in 1988; he ultimately was appointed as their first EMS coordinator and developed and implemented the department's paramedic program; he left Hampton and Rock Island in 1995 and moved to North Carolina to become the first paid fire chief of the King Volunteer Fire Department, where he was tasked with transitioning the all-volunteer department into a combination agency (volunteer and paid employees); he returned to Illinois in 2002 to serve as fire chief for Hanover Park; and

WHEREAS, Chief Haigh, in addition to his duties as Hanover Park's fire chief, has served as the interim village manager and the director of emergency management; he created the Inspectional Services Division, developed, implemented, and managed the village's strategic planning program, and created the Fire Corps Rehab Response Team; and

WHEREAS, Chief Haigh has worked as an Illinois Fire Service Institute Field Staff Instructor since 1995; he regularly presents and speaks internationally and has written numerous training programs for the fire service; he has authored over 30 fire service trade journal articles, including the soon to be released The Dynamic Fire Chief: Principles for Organizational Management; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Fire Chief Craig A. Haigh on his retirement after 33 years of service, commend him for his dedication and outstanding service to the residents of Hanover Park, and wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Chief Haigh as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
