HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Cook County Sheriff's
4Police Department on the occasion of its 100th anniversary,
5providing a century of service to the residents of suburban
6Cook County and the City of Chicago; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department,
8originally named the Cook County Sheriff's Highway Police
9Department, was created when the first 32 Cook County Highway
10Police Officers were officially sworn in for duty in 1922; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Today, 100 years later, the Cook County Sheriff's
12Police Department is the third largest police department in
13the State of Illinois, with more than 500 sworn officers; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department's
15officers are state certified law enforcement officers charged
16with patrolling unincorporated areas of Cook County as well as
17assisting suburban police departments; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department's
19primary responsibility, as mandated by the Illinois State
20Constitution, is to provide police services to the 109,000
21residents in the unincorporated areas of Cook County; and

1    WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department has
2numerous specialized units that provide services to federal,
3state, and local law enforcement agencies on a mutual aid
4basis, including the Investigations Unit, the Evidence
5Technician Unit, the Narcotics and Street Crimes Suppression
6Units, the Gun Team, the Bomb Unit, Emergency 911 Dispatch,
724-hour Warrant Desk, the Truck and Traffic Unit, the
8Community Engagement Unit, Emergency Services, Senior Citizen
9Services, and the Special Victims Unit; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department is
11the first and only police department in Illinois allowed
12membership to the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS),
13assisting with search and rescue operations on land and water
14emergencies; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department works
16to provide the citizens of Cook County with well-trained
17officers who serve the community with dedication and pride;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we congratulate the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department
22for its 100 years of service to the citizens of Cook County,

2moves into its second century.
