SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the loss of Otis "Otie" Glen Ruff of rural Streator, who passed away on January 25, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Otie Ruff was born to Glenn and Bernice (Tinges) Ruff in rural Fairbury on October 20, 1933; he attended the Cornell Grade School and High School and graduated from Long Point High School in 1951; he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict; he married Marian Vissering on November 29, 1996; and

WHEREAS, Otie Ruff farmed all his life in the Long Point area and on the Wisconsin state line; he, along with his brothers, started Long Point Grain elevator in 1957; later known as Ruff Brothers Grain, the business now serves 15 central Illinois communities; and

WHEREAS, Otie Ruff was a member of the Long Point United Methodist Church and the Long Point American Legion; and

WHEREAS, Otie Ruff had a passion for horses; the Ruff Riders pony and draft horse hitches were staples at many central Illinois horse shows and parades; and

WHEREAS, Otie Russ was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dean Ruff; and

WHEREAS, Otie Ruff is survived by his wife; his daughters, Cindy (Kevin) Bertsche, Mary Beth (Virl) Voights, and Barbara Ruff; his son, Mark Ruff; his grandchildren, Tim (Mandy) Hogan, Abby (Bick) Hall, Jared (Joelle) Bertsche, Grace and Glen Ruff, and Kyle Voights; his five great-grandchildren; his brothers, Jerry (Janice) Ruff and Keith (JoAnn) Ruff; his sisters-in-law, Arlene (John) Martin and Judy (Jeff) Wahls; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Otis "Otie" Glen Ruff and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Otie Ruff as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
