HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Jacksonville Country Club on its 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville Country Club was started on July 21, 1899 at its original location south of Mound Road, northwest of what is now the YMCA in Jacksonville; and

WHEREAS, On May 1, 1924, the current location of the Jacksonville Country Club at 100 Country Club Road was purchased by the trustees of Jacksonville Country Club Estates, which included H.W. King, H.K. Chenoweth, A.H. Dollear, C.M. Bell, Paul D. Moriarty, Nelson McMurphy, James Elliot, C.Y. Rowe, and H.P. Samuell; and

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville Country Club clubhouse and nine hole golf course opened on July 4th, 1925, followed by the tennis court built in 1928, the swimming pool completed in 1955, and the 18 hole golf course finished in 1966; and

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville Country Club pro shop was built in 1977, followed by the formal dining room added in 1991 and the new swimming pool and bathhouse constructed in 1994; and

WHEREAS, In 2023, the Centennial Fund was launched to address various projects, including updating the clubhouse together with the bar and fairway room, renovating the golf course bunkers, resurfacing the tennis and pickleball courts, purchasing a new golf cart fleet, upgrading computer software and hardware, improving the grounds and kitchen equipment, and retiring the mortgage; and

WHEREAS, These improvements over the years, as well as the incredible members, administrators, and atmosphere, have made the Jacksonville Country Club one of the hidden gems of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Jacksonville Country Club on their centennial anniversary, and we wish the club continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Jacksonville Country Club as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
