    Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. Makes technical changes in a Section concerning veteran's and educational preference.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
5 changing Section 10-2.1-8 as follows:
 
6     (65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-8)  (from Ch. 24, par. 10-2.1-8)
7     Sec. 10-2.1-8. Veteran's and educational preference.
8 Persons who have successfully obtained an associate's degree in
9 the the field of law enforcement, criminal justice, fire
10 service, or emergency medical services, or a bachelor's degree
11 from an accredited college or university; persons who have been
12 awarded a certificate attesting to the successful completion of
13 the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course as
14 provided in the Illinois Police Training Act and are currently
15 serving as a law enforcement officer on a part-time or
16 full-time basis within the State of Illinois; and persons who
17 were engaged in the military or naval service of the United
18 States for a period of at least one year and who were honorably
19 discharged therefrom, or who are now or may hereafter be on
20 inactive or reserve duty in such military or naval service (not
21 including, however, in the case of offices, positions and
22 places of employment in the police department, persons who were
23 convicted by court-martial of disobedience of orders, where

1 such disobedience consisted in the refusal to perform military
2 service on the ground of religious or conscientious objections
3 against war) shall be preferred for appointments to offices,
4 positions, and places of employment in the fire and police
5 departments of the municipality coming under the provisions of
6 this Division 2.1. The preference points awarded under this
7 Section shall not be cumulative.
8     This amendatory Act of 1973 does not apply to any
9 municipality which is a home rule unit.
