    Amends the School Code. Makes a technical change in a Section concerning teacher certification.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
5 21-11.3 as follows:
 
6     (105 ILCS 5/21-11.3)  (from Ch. 122, par. 21-11.3)
7     Sec. 21-11.3. Resident teacher certificate. A resident
8 teacher certificate shall be valid for 4 years for employment
9 as a resident teacher in a public school. It shall be issued
10 only to persons who have graduated from a regionally accredited
11 institution of higher education with a bachelor's degree, who
12 are enrolled in a program of preparation approved by the the
13 State Superintendent of Education in consultation with the
14 State Teacher Certification Board, and who have passed the
15 appropriate tests as required in Section 21-1a and as
16 determined by the State Board of Education. A resident teacher
17 certificate may be issued for teaching children through grade 3
18 or for grades K-9, 6-12, or K-12 in a special subject area and
19 may not be renewed. A resident teacher may teach only under the
20 direction of a certified teacher as the resident teacher's
21 mentor and shall not teach in place of a certified teacher. The
22 holder of a resident teacher certificate shall be deemed to
23 have satisfied the requirements for the issuance of a Standard

1 Teaching Certificate if he or she has completed 4 years of
2 successful teaching, has passed all appropriate tests, and has
3 earned a master's degree in education.
