SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

220 ILCS 5/8-205.5 new

Amends the Public Utilities Act. Provides that notwithstanding any other provision of the Act or any other law to the contrary, a public utility that, on December 31, 2005, served at least 100,000 electric customers in Illinois may not terminate electric service to a residential customer for nonpayment prior to December 1, 2008. Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning regulation.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Public Utilities Act is amended by adding Section 8-205.5 as follows:

(220 ILCS 5/8-205.5 new)

Sec. 8-205.5. Termination of utilities prior to December 1, 2008. Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act or any other law to the contrary, a public utility that, on December 31, 2005, served at least 100,000 electric customers in Illinois may not terminate electric service to a residential customer for nonpayment prior to December 1, 2008.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
