AN ACT concerning transportation.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Rivers, Lakes, and Streams Act is amended by adding Section 23c as follows:

(615 ILCS 5/23c new)

Sec. 23c. Levee evaluation. Subject to appropriation, the Department of Natural Resources shall evaluate the adequacy of the levee system in this State. If the Department finds the levee system to be insufficient, the Department shall calculate the cost of repairing the levee system. The Department shall report its findings to the Governor and the General Assembly no later than March 1, 2009.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
