1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5 Section 12-821 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/12-821)
7     Sec. 12-821. Display of telephone number; complaint calls.
8     (a) Each school bus shall display at the rear of the bus a
9 sign, with letters and numerals readily visible and readable,
10 indicating the area code and telephone number of the owner of
11 the school bus, regardless of whether the owner is a school
12 district or another person or entity. The sign shall be in the
13 following form:
14     "TO COMMENT ON MY DRIVING, CALL (area code and telephone
15 number of school bus owner)" indicate that the number is to be
16 called to report erratic driving by the school bus driver.
17     A school bus owner who placed a sign conforming to the
18 requirements of Public Act 95-176 on a school bus before the
19 effective date of this amendatory Act of the 95th General
20 Assembly may continue to use that sign on that school bus
21 rather than a sign that conforms to the requirements of this
22 amendatory Act of the 95th General Assembly; however, if the
23 school bus owner replaces that sign, the replacement sign shall

1 conform to the requirements of this amendatory Act of the 95th
2 General Assembly.
3     (b) The owner of each school bus shall establish procedures
4 for accepting the calls provided for under subsection (a) and
5 for taking complaints.
6     (c) The procedures established under subsection (b) shall
7 include, but not be limited to:
8         (1) an internal investigation of the events that led to
9     each complaint; and
10         (2) a report to the complaining party on the results of
11     the investigation and the action taken, if any.

13     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
14 1, 2009.
