SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
30 ILCS 740/2-15.3 new
70 ILCS 3605/52 new
70 ILCS 3610/10 new
70 ILCS 3615/3A.16 new
70 ILCS 3615/3B.15 new

    Amends the Downstate Public Transportation Act, the Local Mass Transit District Act, the Metropolitan Transit Authority Act, and the Regional Transportation Authority Act. Provides that all fixed route transit services provided by a local mass transit district, the Chicago Transit Authority, the Suburban Bus Board, and the Commuter Rail Division must be provided free of charge to active duty military personnel who are wearing a certified uniform of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Downstate Public Transportation Act is
5 amended by adding Section 2-15.3 as follows:
 
6     (30 ILCS 740/2-15.3 new)
7     Sec. 2-15.3. Active duty military personnel.
8 Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, within 60
9 days after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the
10 95th General Assembly, all fixed route transit services
11 provided by a participant must be provided free of charge to
12 any individual who serves on an active-duty basis as a member
13 of the United States Armed Forces, a member of the Illinois
14 National Guard, or a member of the United States Reserve Forces
15 and who is wearing a certified uniform of the Army, Navy, Air
16 Force, or Marine Corps.
 
17     Section 10. The Metropolitan Transit Authority Act is
18 amended by adding Section 52 as follows:
 
19     (70 ILCS 3605/52 new)
20     Sec. 52. Active duty military personnel. Notwithstanding
21 any provision of law to the contrary, within 60 days after the

1 effective date of this amendatory Act of the 95th General
2 Assembly, all fixed route transit services provided by the
3 Chicago Transit Authority must be provided free of charge to
4 any individual who serves on an active-duty basis as a member

6 National Guard, or a member of the United States Reserve Forces
7 and who is wearing a certified uniform of the Army, Navy, Air

9     Section 15. The Local Mass Transit District Act is amended
10 by adding Section 10 as follows:

12     Sec. 10. Active duty military personnel. Notwithstanding
13 any provision of law to the contrary, within 60 days after the
14 effective date of this amendatory Act of the 95th General
15 Assembly, all fixed route transit services provided by a local
16 mass transit district must be provided free of charge to any
17 individual who serves on an active-duty basis as a member of
18 the United States Armed Forces, a member of the Illinois
19 National Guard, or a member of the United States Reserve Forces
20 and who is wearing a certified uniform of the Army, Navy, Air
21 Force, or Marine Corps.
 
22     Section 20. The Regional Transportation Authority Act is
23 amended by adding Sections 3A.16 and 3B.15 as follows:

2     Sec. 3A.16. Active duty military personnel.
3 Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, within 60
4 days after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the
5 95th General Assembly, all fixed route transit services
6 provided by the Suburban Bus Board must be provided free of
7 charge to any individual who serves on an active-duty basis as
8 a member of the United States Armed Forces, a member of the
9 Illinois National Guard, or a member of the United States
10 Reserve Forces and who is wearing a certified uniform of the
11 Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps.
 
12     (70 ILCS 3615/3B.15 new)
13     Sec. 3B.15. Active duty military personnel.
14 Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, within 60
15 days after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the
16 95th General Assembly, all fixed route transit services
17 provided by the Commuter Rail Board must be provided free of
18 charge to any individual who serves on an active-duty basis as
19 a member of the United States Armed Forces, a member of the
20 Illinois National Guard, or a member of the United States
21 Reserve Forces and who is wearing a certified uniform of the
22 Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps.
 
23     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
24 becoming law.
