SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission Act. Provides for the establishment of the Commission, consisting of the Mayor of Dixon and members appointed by the legislative leaders, to coordinate the State's commemoration of President Reagan's 100th birthday in 2011. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Ronald
5 Reagan Centennial Commission Act.
 
6     Section 5. Commission established.
7     (a) The Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission is
8 established, consisting of 9 members as follows: the Speaker
9 and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and the
10 President and Minority Leader of the Senate shall each appoint
11 2 members and, ex officio, the Mayor of the City of Dixon,
12 Illinois.
13     (b) Commission members shall serve without compensation
14 but shall be reimbursed for their reasonable and necessary
15 expenses from funds appropriated for that purpose.
16     (c) The Commission shall select a chairperson from among
17 its members. The Commission shall meet as frequently as
18 necessary, at the call of the chairperson.
19     (d) The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency shall
20 provide the Commission with staff support.
 
21     Section 10. Purposes and responsibilities. The
22 Commission's purposes and responsibilities shall include,

1 without limitation:
2         (1) elevating the centennial of Ronald Reagan's birth
3     to a high profile bipartisan event;
4         (2) recognizing Ronald Reagan as the only United States
5     President born and raised in the State of Illinois;
6         (3) stimulating and encourage the creation and growth
7     of programs about Ronald Reagan;
8         (4) highlighting and publicize the institutions in the
9     State that are connected to Ronald Reagan and their impact
10     on his life;
11         (5) working with and coordinate statewide
12     organizations and groups commemorating Ronald Reagan's
13     100th birthday;
14         (6) encouraging communities and citizens to support
15     and get involved in the commemoration; and
16         (7) working with other state Reagan Memorial
17     Commissions and the national Commission in developing a
18     nationwide plan for the celebration of President Reagan's
19     100th birthday in 2011, including work with Illinois school
20     districts on appropriate ceremonies to mark the successful
21     conclusion of the Cold War and President Reagan's service
22     to the United States.
 
23     Section 15. Report. The Commission shall annually report on
24 its activities to the Governor and General Assembly on or
25 before December 31 of 2008 through 2011.

1     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
2 becoming law.
