SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 105/8.07

    Amends the Illinois Act on the Aging. Provides that the Department on Aging may operate a 24-hour emergency home response service designed to connect the client with a professionally staffed support center via a two-way voice communication system. Provides that the Department may create a demonstration program that allows participants to receive automated calls on a daily or weekly basis.

1     AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Act on the Aging is amended by
5 changing Section 8.07 as follows:
 
6     (20 ILCS 105/8.07)
7     Sec. 8.07. Emergency home response system. Upon initial
8 determination or any redetermination for eligibility for
9 community care program services provided by the Department on
10 Aging, the Department shall make a determination of need as to
11 whether the applicant or recipient of services is in need of an
12 emergency home response system.
13     The Department may operate an emergency home response
14 service to improve the independence and safety of clients in
15 their own homes and to reduce the need for nursing home care.
16 The service will be available on a statewide basis, in
17 accordance with rules adopted by the Department. For the
18 purpose of this Section, "emergency home response service" is a
19 24-hour emergency communication link designed to connect the
20 client with a professionally staffed support center via a
21 two-way voice communication system.
22     In addition, the Department may create a demonstration
23 program that allows participants to receive automated calls on

1 a daily or weekly basis for the purpose of monitoring the
2 safety and well-being of the participant. The program may
3 provide for dispatch of a local contact person or law
4 enforcement agency.
