HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Alfred Campanelli YMCA (formerly the
3 Twinbrook YMCA) is celebrating 40 years of service to the
4 communities of the northwest suburbs and to the Village of
5 Schaumburg; and
 
6     WHEREAS, In 1968, the Twinbrook YMCA was officially
7 chartered as a branch YMCA of the Greater Elgin area YMCA; and
 
8     WHEREAS, In 1970, 14.4 acres for a future YMCA facility
9 were purchased on Wise Road in Schaumburg; and
 
10     WHEREAS, In 1975, a YMCA multi-purpose program building
11 opened on Wise Road in Schaumburg; and
 
12     WHEREAS, In 1983, the Twinbrook YMCA severed its
13 relationship with the Greater Elgin area YMCA and became an
14 independent Chartered YMCA; and
 
15     WHEREAS, In 1987, the Twinbrook YMCA opened a full YMCA
16 facility with a 6-lane indoor swimming pool, double gymnasium,
17 weight room, and locker rooms; and
 
18     WHEREAS, In 2000, the Twinbrook YMCA became the Alfred
19 Campanelli YMCA in honor of local Schaumburg developer Alfred

1 Campanelli, who provided a $3.8 million gift for capital
2 expansion; and
 
3     WHEREAS, In 2002, the Alfred Campanelli YMCA opened a $5.4
4 million expansion, including a Field House with fitness center,
5 4-lane track, two gymnasiums, and a Senior/Teen Center with a
6 computer lab and game room, with $1.1 million of State of
7 Illinois Member Initiative Grants; and
 
8     WHEREAS, In 2008, the Alfred Campanelli YMCA serves over
9 10,000 members and program participants annually through child
10 care programs, health and wellness activities, and aquatic
11 safety instruction at 12 locations throughout the northwest
12 suburbs; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The Alfred Campanelli YMCA ensures that no one is
14 turned away for lack of financial resources; and
 
15     WHEREAS, The Alfred Campanelli YMCA builds strong kids,
16 strong families, and a strong community through programs,
17 facilities, and services that build a healthy spirit, mind, and
18 body for all; therefore, be it
 
19     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21 congratulate the Alfred Campanelli YMCA on its 40th anniversary

1 and take great pleasure in wishing the Alfred Campanelli YMCA
2 continued success in its service to the northwest Chicago
3 suburban community; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this preamble and
5 resolution be presented to Gary Bublitz, President and CEO of
6 the Alfred Campanelli YMCA.
