HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Alfred Campanelli YMCA (formerly the Twinbrook YMCA) is celebrating 40 years of service to the communities of the northwest suburbs and to the Village of Schaumburg; and

WHEREAS, In 1968, the Twinbrook YMCA was officially chartered as a branch YMCA of the Greater Elgin area YMCA; and

WHEREAS, In 1970, 14.4 acres for a future YMCA facility were purchased on Wise Road in Schaumburg; and

WHEREAS, In 1975, a YMCA multi-purpose program building opened on Wise Road in Schaumburg; and

WHEREAS, In 1983, the Twinbrook YMCA severed its relationship with the Greater Elgin area YMCA and became an independent Chartered YMCA; and

WHEREAS, In 1987, the Twinbrook YMCA opened a full YMCA facility with a 6-lane indoor swimming pool, double gymnasium, weight room, and locker rooms; and

WHEREAS, In 2000, the Twinbrook YMCA became the Alfred Campanelli YMCA in honor of local Schaumburg developer Alfred Campanelli, who provided a $3.8 million gift for capital expansion; and

WHEREAS, In 2002, the Alfred Campanelli YMCA opened a $5.4 million expansion, including a Field House with fitness center, 4-lane track, two gymnasiums, and a Senior/Teen Center with a computer lab and game room, with $1.1 million of State of Illinois Member Initiative Grants; and

WHEREAS, In 2008, the Alfred Campanelli YMCA serves over 10,000 members and program participants annually through child care programs, health and wellness activities, and aquatic safety instruction at 12 locations throughout the northwest suburbs; and

WHEREAS, The Alfred Campanelli YMCA ensures that no one is turned away for lack of financial resources; and

WHEREAS, The Alfred Campanelli YMCA builds strong kids, strong families, and a strong community through programs, facilities, and services that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Alfred Campanelli YMCA on its 40th anniversary and take great pleasure in wishing the Alfred Campanelli YMCA continued success in its service to the northwest Chicago suburban community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this preamble and resolution be presented to Gary Bublitz, President and CEO of the Alfred Campanelli YMCA.
