HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the owners and employees of Forest City Gear in Roscoe on the occasion of being named as one of the Ten Best Machine Shops for 2007 by Penton Media's American Machinist trade publication in November of 2007; and

WHEREAS, The Ten Best Machine Shops in U.S. ranking is awarded each year by Penton Media's American Machinist publication based on a company's operating performance, measured against American Machinist's proprietary machine shop benchmarks database, interviews, and site visits, with winners recognized by the publication in November of 2007; and

WHEREAS, Forest City Gear was founded in 1955; the company specializes in aerospace, medical, military, and racing vehicles, industrial projects, power tool gearing, and various instruments; the company had total sales of $10 million in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Forest City Gear's great success is due to its philosophy of investing 20% to 40% of gross revenues in new equipment, strengthening their customer preferences and attachments to the company, selling surplus equipment, which can lead to new gear business from the buyer, seeking long-term, not short-term, returns on investment, and cultivating a workforce that is loyal, long-term, and embraces new technology and lifelong learning; and

WHEREAS, Forest City Gear holds the distinction of being the only machine shop in the State of Illinois to be named to the Ten Best Machine Shops for 2007 list; and

WHEREAS, In response to this prestigious designation, Forest City Gear has added three jobs, bringing their total workforce to 48 employees, and has gained a new customer every week; and

WHEREAS, Forest City Gear's designation as one of the Ten Best Machine Shops for 2007 is a testament to the integrity, dedication, and hard work of its owners and employees; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the owners and employees of Forest City Gear in Roscoe on the occasion of being named as one of the Ten Best Machine Shops for 2007 and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Forest City Gear President Fred Young as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
