HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, AARP is a voluntary, nonprofit, nonpartisan
3 membership organization with a 50-year history of leading
4 positive social change by harnessing the individual and
5 collective power of its members to make life better for all
6 Illinois residents as they age; and
 
7     WHEREAS, AARP has, since being founded by retired educator
8 Ethel Percy Andrus, taken as its motto "To serve, not to be
9 served"; and
 
10     WHEREAS, AARP's "army of useful citizens" in our State
11 includes numerous volunteers whose selfless service includes
12 money management and tax preparation assistance, safe driving
13 courses, advocacy, job training, intergenerational learning,
14 community rebuilding, home visitation, and nonpartisan voter
15 education; and
 
16     WHEREAS, AARP has amplified its members' voices on issues
17 of statewide importance such as affordable, quality health
18 care, lifetime financial security, and consumer protection;
19 and
 
20     WHEREAS, AARP has helped to foster proactive policies that
21 enable our citizens to achieve the quality of life and peace of

1 mind they deserve; and
 
2     WHEREAS, AARP shares Illinois' belief that diversity in
3 age, economic status, attitudes, ability, and lifestyles is a
4 source of profound State and national strength; and
 
5     WHEREAS, AARP works to develop strong communities that are
6 characterized by affordable and appropriate housing, ease of
7 mobility, and features and services that support the lives and
8 lifestyles of people of all ages; and
 
9     WHEREAS, AARP has successfully built important alliances
10 statewide among businesses, communities, and Illinois
11 residents of all generations; and
 
12     WHEREAS, AARP continues to advocate for an economic
13 environment throughout our State that supports and promotes the
14 loyalty, reliability, flexibility, and potential of mature
15 workers; and
 
16     WHEREAS, AARP recognizes that ensuring the protection,
17 safety, integrity, involvement, security, health, lifestyle,
18 and well being of citizens 50 years of age and older is not a
19 destination but a continuing journey; therefore, be it

1 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2 congratulate AARP for 50 years of service to our State and our
3 nation, and for championing the future of every generation.
