HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Erin Barry of Ambassador Girl Scout Troop 804 on the occasion of winning the Gold Award from the Girl Scouts organization; and

WHEREAS, The Gold Award is the highest recognition that a Girl Scout can obtain; the award is equivalent to the rank of Eagle awarded by the Boy Scouts; to earn a Gold Award, a girl must meet several requirements, including leadership projects, career exploration, meeting challenges to learn about herself and the world around her, earning four interest projects, and the completion of a community service project of over 60 hours; and

WHEREAS, For her Gold Award project, Erin Barry chose to help families that live in shelters due to domestic violence or homelessness; she has spent over 8 months collecting donations of art supplies that can be stored at various shelters for the children there to use or keep; and

WHEREAS, Erin Barry is currently a senior at Lincoln Park High School in the International Baccalaureate program; she plans to pursue a career in teaching and has a great passion for art; she plans to attend college either in Minnesota or at Knox College; and

WHEREAS, Erin Barry will be presented with her Gold Award at an official presentation at the First Congregational Church of Forest Glen in Chicago on May 4, 2008; and

WHEREAS, The dedication and effort put forward by Erin Barry on the behalf of her community serves as an inspiration to the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Erin Barry of Ambassador Girl Scout Troop 804 on the occasion of winning the Gold Award and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Erin Barry as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
