HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kathy Lori Watkins of Chicago, who passed away on April 24, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Watkins was born on January 4, 1959 in Alton; she was the oldest of two children born to the late Mark and Opal Goins; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Watkins attended Alton High School; she graduated from Monmouth College in Monmouth in 1979 with an associate's degree and cum laude from Rush University in Chicago with a bachelor's degree in 1981; after graduating from Rush University, she permanently relocated to Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Watkins was employed as a Medical Technologist at Rush Medical Center and as a Supervisor of Medical Technology at Provident Hospital in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Watkins was married to Stanley Watkins; to this union, two daughters were born, Karyn Brianne and Brittany Antionette; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Watkins was an active member of Crusader Ministries for over 15 years under the leadership of Apostle John Eckhart; as a member, she volunteered in the church's tape ministry for several years and served as a Sunday school teacher; she was also an active participant in the Volunteers for America program, where she tutored foster children; she received national recognition for her services; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Watkins was active in the Multiple Sclerosis Society as a volunteer and participant in her support group; she was also active in the 2nd Ward Democratic Party under Committeeman Bobby Rush; and

WHEREAS, When she was not volunteering, Kathy Watkins enjoyed the simple things in life, such as feeding birds, home gardening, and reading; neighbors, friends, and even strangers could count on her for a smile and a kind word; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Kathy Lori Watkins; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kathy Watkins as an expression of our sympathy.
