HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the winners of the 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards; and

WHEREAS, The Young Women's Christian Association of the United States of America is a women's membership movement, nourished by its roots in the Christian faith and sustained by the richness of many beliefs and values; strengthened by diversity, the association draws together members who strive to create opportunities for women's growth, leadership and power in order to attain a common vision of peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people; and

WHEREAS, The Women of Distinction Awards Program is a nationally established YWCA event designed to both highlight the accomplishments of individual women and provide models of achievements to which the next generation of women leaders can aspire; and

WHEREAS, The YWCA Women of Distinction are selected based upon significant contributions in areas such as, but not limited to, the arts, business, communications/media, community service, education, entrepreneurship, social service, government/politics, and the professions; nominees were evaluated based upon their volunteerism, professional achievements, and activities that promote the empowerment of women and/or activities that promote tolerance and diversity; and

WHEREAS, The 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction are Sharon Arnold, Janet Biermann, Gail Drillinger, Barbara Hinson, Margaret Hopkins, Pat King, Virginia Long, Patricia Morrissey, Judge Kyle Napp, Audrey Ridenhower, Nancy Whitlow, and Eva Faye Zeisset; and

WHEREAS, The 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the winners of the 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards on the occasion of their victory and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the winners of the 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
