HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the winners of the
4 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The Young Women's Christian Association of the
6 United States of America is a women's membership movement,
7 nourished by its roots in the Christian faith and sustained by
8 the richness of many beliefs and values; strengthened by
9 diversity, the association draws together members who strive to
10 create opportunities for women's growth, leadership and power
11 in order to attain a common vision of peace, justice, freedom,
12 and dignity for all people; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The Women of Distinction Awards Program is a
14 nationally established YWCA event designed to both highlight
15 the accomplishments of individual women and provide models of
16 achievements to which the next generation of women leaders can
17 aspire; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The YWCA Women of Distinction are selected based
19 upon significant contributions in areas such as, but not
20 limited to, the arts, business, communications/media,
21 community service, education, entrepreneurship, social
22 service, government/politics, and the professions; nominees

1 were evaluated based upon their volunteerism, professional
2 achievements, and activities that promote the empowerment of
3 women and/or activities that promote tolerance and diversity;
4 and
 
5     WHEREAS, The 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction are Sharon
6 Arnold, Janet Biermann, Gail Drillinger, Barbara Hinson,
7 Margaret Hopkins, Pat King, Virginia Long, Patricia Morrissey,
8 Judge Kyle Napp, Audrey Ridenhower, Nancy Whitlow, and Eva Faye
9 Zeisset; and
 
10     WHEREAS, The 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction serve as models
11 of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the
12 State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 congratulate the winners of the 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction
16 Awards on the occasion of their victory and wish them continued
17 success and happiness in the future; and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
19 presented to the winners of the 2008 YWCA Women of Distinction
20 Awards as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
