HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The 2007-2008 South Suburban College Bulldogs Basketball Team is ranked 5th in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II after winning two of three games at the National Tournament in Danville; and

WHEREAS, The Bulldogs finished the 2007-2008 season with a record of 31-5 and became the first men's basketball team in SSC history to go undefeated at home with a 14-0 record in South Holland; and

WHEREAS, The Bulldogs won the Region IV Championship for the second consecutive year; the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 teams set a two-year school record for wins with 57 victories under Head Coach John Pigatti, earning their first national tournament berths since 1987; and

WHEREAS, Larry Swann and Billy Rush were selected for the All-Region First Team for District A; Elijah Muhammad Cunningham was named to the National All-Tournament Team; A.J. Mandani made the Regional All-Tournament Team; Larry Swann was also named Regional Tournament MVP; and Head Coach John Pigatti was selected as the Region IV Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season; and

WHEREAS, The players of the South Suburban College Bulldogs Basketball Team are Elijah Muhammad Cunningham, Tremell Adams, Larry Swann, A.J. Mandani, Josh White, Shannon Williams, Billy Rush, Devin L. Scott, Jr., Bradley Birton, Rickey Clayborn, and Adam Tolo; the team's assistant coaches are John McIntyre, Mark Carpenter, and Karvell Bailey and the team's head coach is John Pigatti; and

WHEREAS, The 2007-2008 South Suburban College Bulldogs Basketball Team serves as a model of hard work, sportsmanship, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the coaches and players of the 2007-2008 South Suburban College Bulldogs Basketball Team for being the 5th ranked NJCAA Division II basketball team in the nation and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to South Suburban College Bulldogs coach John Pigatti as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
