HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Javette Orgain on the occasion of her being elected as president of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Academy of Family Physicians is a professional membership society representing 3,800 family physicians, residents, and medical students throughout the State; the organization advocates for reforms in the public and private health care systems in order to promote primary care and attract more physicians to the specialty of family medicine; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Javette Orgain, a native resident of Chicago, is a board certified Associate Professor of Clinical Family Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine since March of 1991; she serves as the chairperson of the Illinois State Board of Health and Assistant Dean of the UICCOM Urban Health Program; she also served as the 100th President of the National Health Association; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Javette Orgain holds the distinction of being the first African-American president of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians; she will be installed by American Academy of Family Physicians past president Warren Jones, who was the first African-American to be elected president of the AAFP in 2002; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Javette Orgain serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. Javette Orgain on the occasion of her being elected as president of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Javette Orgain as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
