HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the students, staff, and faculty of Ellis Elementary School in Belleville on the occasion of the school being named a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School; and

WHEREAS, The No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon School Program honors public and private K-12 schools that either perform academically superior in their State or demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement; and

WHEREAS, Since 1982, the United States Department of Education has annually sought out schools where students attain and maintain high academic goals by utilizing standards of excellence evidenced by student achievement measures and the characteristics known from research to epitomize school quality in order to celebrate schools that beat the odds; and

WHEREAS, No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools have set a standard of excellence for schools across the United States through commitment, high energy, research-based knowledge of what methods are best utilized, and the results of quality assessments; and

WHEREAS, Out of only 320 schools in the nation recognized as a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School, and of the 21 schools recognized in the State of Illinois, the Ellis Elementary School in Belleville was the only school recognized in the southern illinois region, a testament to the school's unwavering commitment to quality education; and

WHEREAS, The students, parents, faculty, and staff of the Ellis Elementary School in Belleville should be proud of the school's incredible success and the standards that they have set forth for the schools of this State and the nation at large; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the students, staff, and faculty of Ellis Elementary School on the occasion of the school being named a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Pam Leonard, principal of Ellis Elementary School, as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
