HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize State Representative Ruth Munson on her hard work and service to the people of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Munson has served as State Representative since her appointment in December of 2002 to complete the term of the late State Representative Doug Hoeft; she was elected twice (2004 and 2006) to serve the residents of the 43rd district; and

WHEREAS, As the mother of two children Representative Munson understands the concerns of parents and has worked in the community to enhance after-school programs by creating the Northern Fox Valley AfterSchool & Beyond Network; she has also introduced legislation to protect families from gang crime and passed tough new laws to keep kids safe from Internet predators; and

WHEREAS, In addition, she worked to pass legislation creating "fast-growth" grants for school districts that experience growing enrollment; she helped in the creation of the Social Security Number Protection Task Force to prevent identity theft; in 2008 she helped pass legislation that protects social security number and other personal information; and

WHEREAS, She also won reforms for residents in manufactured home communities; she recognized the implications of the restructuring of Stroger Hospital and its affects on healthcare for residents of Kane County; she aided in the creation of the Health Access Network to provide access to quality specialty healthcare services for families in need; and

WHEREAS, Representative Munson created and now leads the Illinois Legislative Manufacturing Caucus toward its mission of keeping good paying jobs in the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Representative Munson received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Northern Illinois University in 1981; she was elected to the Elgin City Council in 1999; she and her husband, Steve, reside in Elgin and are the parents of two college-age children; and

WHEREAS, While serving in the General Assembly, she was a member of the Bio-Technology Committee and Computer Technology Committee, serving as Republican Spokesperson for both, the Appropriations-Human Services Committee, the Elementary and Secondary Education Committee, the Insurance Committee, the International Trade and Commerce Committee, the Pension Fund Management Committee, the Tollway Oversight Committee, and the Legislative Information System Committee; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Representative Ruth Munson on her retirement from the Illinois House of Representatives and wish her the best in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Ruth Munson as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
