HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Jennifer Hudson on her career and accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Jennifer Hudson won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the 79th annual Academy Awards, held on Sunday, February 25, 2007 for her debut role as "Effie Melody White" in the movie Dreamgirls; she beat out over 750 other hopefuls for the role; she is one of a very few to win an Oscar for a debut role; and

WHEREAS, For her performance in Dreamgirls, she won the National Board of Review for "Breakthrough Performance", the New York Film Critics Award, the Las Vegas Film Critics Award, the Phoenix Film Critic's Society Award, the Golden Satellite Award, the Golden Globe Award, and the British Film Award; and

WHEREAS, She first became nationally known when she became one of the twelve finalists on the third season of the FOX television reality show American Idol in 2004; and

WHEREAS, In the fall of 2002 she started her journey by successfully landing a major role as "Calliope" in the play Disney Wonder for the Disney cruise line, leaving in August 2003 to pursue her dreams on American Idol; and

WHEREAS, She was born on September 12, 1981 and grew up on the south side of Chicago and began singing in the church choir at age seven; she is a 1999 graduate of Dunbar Vocational High School; and

WHEREAS, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich recently proclaimed Monday, February 26, 2007 as "Jennifer Hudson Day" in the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Jennifer Hudson on the success she has achieved in her career and wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jennifer Hudson as a token of our respect and esteem.
