HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Mary Helt Gavin has served as Publisher and Manager of the Evanston RoundTable for nine years; and

WHEREAS, The Evanston RoundTable is a bi-weekly community newspaper that provides meaningful, thorough and even-handed coverage of Evanston news, including city committees, local business development, school districts 65 and 202 and features that are uniquely Evanston; and

WHEREAS, The Evanston RoundTable has been cited for numerous awards by the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association; and

WHEREAS, Mary Helt Gavin includes the training of journalists as a key component of her work; and

WHEREAS, Mary Helt Gavin has been a long-time Evanstonian, committed to the city's diversity and sustainability and particularly mindful of its less fortunate residents; and

WHEREAS, The Community Media Workshop is recognizing Mary Helt Gavin for her outstanding work by awarding her with the 2007 Studs Terkel Award; and

WHEREAS, The Studs Terkel Award is being presented to outstanding media professionals for excellence in covering and reflecting Chicago's diverse communities; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we extend our congratulations to Mary Helt Gavin for being selected as a winner of the 2007 Studs Terkel Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mary Helt Gavin as an expression of our esteem.
