HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of
4 Leo Garrett, Jr., of Chicago on January 5, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Garrett was born September 12, 1926, to Leo
6 Garrett, Sr., and Mary Edwards-Garrett in Savage, Mississippi;
7 and
 
8     WHEREAS, Leo Garrett met and married Carrie Kelly in 1943,
9 who moved to Chicago with him in 1949; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He found Christ early in life at Coxie Grove
11 Baptist Church, was a member and ordained minister at the Ellis
12 Park Church of God in Chicago, and was a member of St. Sammuel
13 Temple Church of God in Christ for 15 years until his death; he
14 was also a proud Mason of the 33rd Degree; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Leo Garrett, Jr., was preceded in death by his
16 parents, Leo and Mary Edwards-Garrett; his sons, Hugh Sr.,
17 Elester, Charles, James, Leo III, and George; and his brothers,
18 A.G., Chester, and Sylvester; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The passing of Leo Garrett, Jr., will be deeply
20 felt by many, especially his wife, Carrie; his children, Martha

1 (Melvin), Shirley (James), Mary, Catherine (Keith), Clara
2 (Joseph), Kenneth, Glenn (Denise), Marvin (Cheryl), Margaret,
3 Minnie, and Kevin (Sabrina); his sisters, Laura and Catherine;
4 his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and
5 great-great-grandchildren; his nieces, nephews, cousins, other
6 family, and friends; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Leo
10 Garrett, Jr.; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Leo Garrett, Jr., as an expression
13 of our deepest sympathy.
