HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Canton American
4 Legion Post 16 on the occasion of its 88th birthday on March
5 24, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Canton American Legion Post 16 was founded 88
7 years ago due to a great need for a veterans rights
8 organization when the Doughboys returned home with
9 debilitating physical and mental disorders; the government was
10 paying little attention to their needs and the American Legion
11 was formed to fill that need; the first duty of the American
12 Legion is to see that those who have borne the battle get a
13 fair deal from the government they fought to protect; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The American Legion is known as the leading
15 advocate for veterans health care and rehabilitation; the
16 Legion has programs for children and youth and provides a
17 strong national security policy, promoting American values;
18 and
 
19     WHEREAS, At this year's event, members who achieved 50
20 years and 60 years of continuous service to the American Legion
21 were honored; those honored include Veryln Vaughn (50 years),
22 Henry Stanko (60 years), B.J. Vacca (60 years), and Otis McCoy

1 (60 years); the Legionnaire of the Year Award was also
2 presented to Ray Studer; therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5 congratulate the members, past and present, of Canton American
6 Legion Post 16 and thank them for the services they provide to
7 our veterans; and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9 presented to Veryln Vaughn, Henry Stanko, B.J. Vacca, Otis
10 McCoy, Ray Studer, and to the Canton American Legion Post 16.
