HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Sauk Village was incorporated on March 12, 1957 encompassing 55 homes located near Sauk Trail and Illinois 394; and

WHEREAS, Homes in 1958 sold for approximately $13,000 with many World War II veterans taking advantage of Veterans Administration backed mortgages; today homes range from $60,000 - $350,000 in price; and

WHEREAS, Today Sauk Village has 11,000 residents, approximately 3,500 housing units, and encompasses approximately 6 square miles; it is located both in Cook and Will Counties; and

WHEREAS, The Village has had five Mayors in its history: Thomas Nichols, 1957-1965; Roger Theisen, 1965-1977; Edward Paesel, 1977-1989; Mark Collins, 1989-1997; and Roger Peckham, 1997-present; and

WHEREAS, Sauk Village is now home to one of the largest concentrations of distribution and warehousing in the Chicago metropolitan region; thousands of employees are employed at firms such as Roadway Express, ABF Distribution, Pacesetter Steel, Warehouse Specialists, Inc., Minority Auto Distribution, Wayne Steel, Wille Brothers Concrete, DP Partners Development, and Chicago Air Power; and

WHEREAS, In commemoration of the 50th anniversary, Sauk Village will construct a new municipal complex including a new senior citizen center, build and dedicate a community Veterans Memorial, expand and renovate the community center for young people, and expand and renovate space for the police and Emergency Services Agency; and

WHEREAS, Thousands of families have lived in Sauk Village; their children attend Bloom and Bloom Trait High Schools and Community Consolidated School District #168 schools; they have used the Nancy McConathy Public Library and its new facility that opened in 2006; and families have attended church services at the numerous churches in the community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the citizens of Sauk Village as they celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of their community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Edward Paesel, Chairman of the Sauk Village Countdown to 50 Committee, and Roger Peckham, Mayor of Sauk Village, as a symbol of our esteem.
