HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor Linda J. Crotchett, Jersey
4 County Clerk, on her retirement; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Linda Crotchett was born on July 4, 1939 in Alton,
6 Illinois, to Dudley and Elizabeth Roth; in 1957 she graduated
7 from Jersey Community High School and married Russell "Rip"
8 Crotchett; and
 
9     WHEREAS, She was appointed Deputy County Clerk under the
10 Administration of Thomas A. Lock, County Clerk in 1958; at the
11 age of 22, she won the Republican nomination in the primary
12 election, defeating two primary opponents, and was elected
13 Jersey County Clerk in that general election; she was the
14 youngest elected county official in the State of Illinois and
15 the first woman ever elected to county office in Jersey County;
16 she was elected to 11 consecutive terms as county clerk and
17 holds the record as the Illinois county clerk with the longest
18 tenure; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Her office motto shows her committment to the
20 people of Jersey County, "Happy to Meet you and Eager to Serve
21 You"; and

1     WHEREAS, Linda Crotchett has a long record of service to
2 the people of the State of Illinois, including 2 years with the
3 Illinois Tourism Council, 4 years as Treasurer of the Zone II
4 County Clerks & Recorders, 15 years on the State Board of
5 Elections Advisory Committee, 12 years as Chairman of the
6 County Clerk's Tax Manual Committee, and 20 years as a Member
7 of the County Clerk's Tax Manual Committee; she served 22 years
8 on the Program Committee of the Illinois County Clerk's
9 Association; and
 
10     WHEREAS, She served 35 years as a Local Government Lecturer
11 (Workshops, Training Sessions), 25 years as an instructor for
12 newly elected County Clerk's Training Seminars, 44 years as a
13 United States Passport Agent, appointed by the United States
14 State Department, and 40 years as Registrar of Births & Deaths,
15 appointed by the Illinois Department of Public Health; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Her community activities include serving on the
17 1964 Jersey County Quasqui-Centennial Committee, on the 1989
18 Jersey County Sesquicentennial Committee, and the 1994
19 Centennial and Historic Courthouse Celebration; she served as
20 the Chairman of the Jersey County Heart Fund, the Chairman of
21 the Jersey County Cancer Fund, as a member of the Jersey County
22 Salvation Army Service Board, as Chairman of the "Santa
23 Breakfast" Salvation Army Benefit, as Chairman of the "Kid's
24 Can Drive" Salvation Army Benefit, as a member of the After

1 Prom Committee, and as a member of the Panther Athletic Club at
2 Jersey County High School and Student Government Day Host; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Linda Crotchett was the recipient of the
4 Chairman's Award from the River Bend Growth Association in 1995
5 for her contributions to the Jersey County Courthouse History;
6 and
 
7     WHEREAS, Linda Crotchett is the proud mother of Kristen
8 Brown, Janelle Platto, and Cathy Dawn Reynolds; she is the
9 doting grandmother of Emily, Molly, Lydia Witt, Alexis, Andrew
10 Platto, Reagan, and Walker Reynolds; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13 congratulate Linda Crotchett on her retirement as Jersey County
14 Clerk and wish her the best in the future; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Linda Crotchett.
