HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Lawrence S. Reiner, Executive Director of the
3 Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association (NEDSRA), is
4 celebrating his thirty year anniversary with the Association;
5 he has been with NEDSRA since its formation in 1977; Mr. Reiner
6 and NEDSRA have been recognized state-wide and nationally for
7 their accomplishments; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Larry Reiner has been professionally involved on
9 the national, State, and local levels in his work; he holds
10 memberships in the National Recreation and Park Association,
11 the National Therapeutic Recreation Society, and the American
12 Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance;
13 and
 
14     WHEREAS, Prior to his involvement with NEDSRA, Larry Reiner
15 had extensive experience in therapeutic recreation, serving as
16 the first program specialist for the first community-based
17 therapeutic recreation agency in the State of Illinois, the
18 North Suburban Special Recreation Association; and
 
19     WHEREAS, In 1973 Larry Reiner became the Executive Director
20 for the Maine-Niles Association of Special Recreation, the
21 second agency of its type; he also served as the Coordinator of
22 Recreation and Leisure Services at the Chicago Lighthouse for

1 the Blind, and as the Administrative Consultant to the South
2 Suburban Special Recreation Association; in 1982 Larry Reiner
3 received the Illinois Therapeutic Recreation Section's highest
4 award as their "Distinguished Professional", in recognition
5 for outstanding contributions to the advancement of
6 Therapeutic Recreation service in Illinois, and in 1990 he
7 received the Meritorious Service Award from the organization;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, Larry Reiner graduated with high honors from the
10 University of Illinois, Chicago, with majors in physical
11 education and special education; he completed his Master's of
12 Science Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University,
13 with a specific concentration in Outdoor Education, and an
14 emphasis on serving individuals with disabilities; in 2003, he
15 completed his dissertation and doctoral requirements, and
16 graduated with a Doctoral Degree in Counseling, Health, and
17 Adult Education from Northern Illinois University; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Larry Reiner has co-authored three published
19 books and numerous unpublished professional papers and
20 studies; he has been a presenter at conferences and
21 universities throughout the State of Illinois and in several
22 other states; his articles on the Americans with Disabilities
23 Act have been published in Athletic Business Magazine and the
24 Illinois Park and Recreation Magazine; and he is a contributing

1 author to the Park Commissioners Handbook, (1994), a
2 publication of the Illinois Association of Park Districts; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Larry Reiner was recognized in July of 1994 by the
4 United States Architectural and Transportation Barriers
5 Compliance Board "in recognition and appreciation of
6 meritorious service in ensuring accessibility and promoting an
7 environment usable by all people"; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He received the Illinois Park and Recreation
9 Association "Professional Award" in 1996 for outstanding
10 leadership and community service; he was recognized by the
11 National Therapeutic Recreation Society with the 1996
12 Meritorious Service Award; and in 1997 he received the Illinois
13 Park and Recreation Association Fellow Award for excellence in
14 promoting the park and recreation movement on a statewide
15 basis; and
 
16     WHEREAS, In June 2001, Larry Reiner was recognized "for
17 dedication to individuals with developmental disabilities and
18 service above self" with the Honorary Rotarian of the Year
19 Award by the Elmhurst Rotary Club; and
 
20     WHEREAS, In 2001, Larry Reiner was appointed to the
21 Illinois Attorney General's Select Committee on the Disabled
22 and serves on its marketing and funding sub-committees; in

1 2003, while chairing the IPRA Ethical Practices Task Force, he
2 co-authored the IPRA Code of Ethical Practices; he currently
3 serves as Vice President of the Board of Commissioners of the
4 Buffalo Grove Park District; and on January 6, 2007, he
5 celebrated his 30 year anniversary as Executive Director of the
6 Northeast DuPage Special Education Association; therefore, be
7 it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10 congratulate Lawrence Reiner on his 30th anniversary as
11 Executive Director of the Northeast DuPage Special Recreation
12 Association and wish him continued success in his future
13 endeavors; and we recognize that his vision and leadership has
14 resulted in a tremendous and positive impact on the lives of
15 people with disabilities; and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to Lawrence Reiner as a symbol of our respect and
18 esteem.
