HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the members of the Illinois House of Representatives that the village of Cherry Valley is celebrating it's sesquicentennial year in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Cherry Valley is the fourth oldest community in Winnebago County, incorporated on January 31, 1857; and

WHEREAS, Cherry Valley was originally named Butler; the name change was decided by placing suggested names into a hat; the winning name was in honor of Cherry Valley, New York, where the resident that suggested the name was originally from; and

WHEREAS, Cherry Valley installed the Village Clock in September of 1924, where it still keeps time today; and

WHEREAS, Cherry Valley citizens elected their first female Village President (Mayor) in 1925; Josephine Slatter won the election by one vote; and

WHEREAS, Cherry Valley is a growing and prosperous community with a population of 2,900 that increases by about 5% annually; Cherry Valley has golf courses, recreational areas, a growing industrial area, a large shopping mall, and a water park; and the village continues to see development on an annual basis; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the citizens of Cherry Valley on the sesquicentennial anniversary of their community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the village of Cherry Valley as a symbol of our respect and best wishes for the future.
