HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Charleston High School teacher Tina Winings for her many accomplishments and accolades throughout her career; and

WHEREAS, Tina Winings was born on July 1, 1956 in Indianapolis, Indiana; she married Larry Winings in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Tina Winings received her bachelor's degree in speech communication from Eastern Illinois University in 1978; she received her master's degree in speech communication from EIU in 1979 and her master's degree in English from EIU in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Tina Winings has had a long and distinguished career in education; she has taught English, honors English, speech, and theatre at Charleston High School since 1980; she helped to design and implement 6 honors English classes taught at CHS; she taught beginning literature night courses at Lakeland College in the fall of 1981; she taught basic English at EIU during the summer of 1982; and she taught summer speech oral interpretation workshops from 1994 to 2003; and

WHEREAS, Tina Winings has coached and directed many theatrical performances and training camps, including the EIU Speech Camp, the Charleston High School Speech and Drama Team, CHS Drama and Group Interpretation events, the Homecoming Variety Show, the SCOTIE Tourney, the Spring Variety Show, the Spring Comedy and Drama Revue, the CHS Annual Spring Novice Tourney, the Illinois High School Theatre Festival, the CHS Annual Class Talent Competition, and the Charleston Middle School Speech Program; and she organized and implemented a National Forensic League Charter at CHS in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Tina Winings has served as mentor for student teachers and practicum students from 1982 to 2006; she participated in the New Teacher Mentor Workshop in August 2004; and she organized the New Coaches Mentoring Workshops of 2003, 2004, and 2006; and

WHEREAS, Tina Winings has received many awards and honors during her career; she was selected as a Charleston Business and Professional Women's Young Career Woman of the Year in 1986; she was selected to be on the State Speech Advisory Committee for Individual Events from 1994 to 1996; she was the SCOTIE Coach of the Year for 1995; she received the Education is the Key Award in 2003; she was a member of the IHSA State Drama and Group Interpretation Committee from 2002 to 2007; and she received the ISTA Edith Harrod Award in 2006; and

WHEREAS, Tina Winings has served in various positions with the Charleston United Way, the Special Commission on Tournaments and Individual Events, the Charleston Education, the ISTA, the Soaring Schools Initiative, and the Consortium of Information and Telecommunications Executives; she currently serves as the Membership/Public Relations Chair for the ISTA; and she is a member of a creative team selected to design and implement new teacher induction programs for Charleston Community Unit School District #1; and

WHEREAS, Tina Winings' dedication to her profession has truly been a model for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Tina Winings for her many accomplishments and accolades throughout her career and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Tina Winings as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
