HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Reverend Arthur J. Gass, Sr., Pastor of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Waukegan, on his twentieth anniversary of pastoral ministry; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Gass has been the Pastor of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church since June of 1987; under his leadership the church membership has grown and a new building was dedicated in March of 1993; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Gass is the President of the Black Chamber of Commerce of Lake County, Incorporated; he is a Past President of the North Shore Baptist Ministers Alliance; he is a former Secretary of the North Shore Pastor's Conference; he is the former First Vice-Moderator of the New Era District Association; he is the former Financial Secretary and Budget Director and 3rd Vice President of Finance for the Young Pastors and Ministers Department of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Incorporated; and he has served as Chairman of the People's Voice Advisory Board affiliated with the People's Voice newspaper; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Gass is a member of the NAACP; he is a member of the Board of Directors of Daisy's Resource Center; and he is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Lake County Community Action Project (CAP); and

WHEREAS, Reverend Gass is currently pursuing his degree in religious studies from the North Shore Bible College and Theological Seminary in Zion; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Gass will be honored with a banquet on August 25, 2007; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Reverend Gass on his twentieth anniversary of pastoral ministry to the congregation of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Arthur Gass, Sr., as a symbol of our respect and admiration.
