HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The institution of marriage is one of the
3 cornerstones upon which our society is built, and a marriage
4 that has achieved a notable longevity is truly a model for the
5 people of the State of Illinois; and
 
6     WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of members of the
7 Illinois House of Representatives that Reverend and Mrs. Henry
8 Nicholson of East St. Louis are celebrating their fiftieth
9 wedding anniversary this year; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Henry and Evelyn Nicholson were married on July
11 27, 1957; they serve the Truelight Baptist Church in East St.
12 Louis and are the proud parents of Scarlet, Octavia, and
13 Corrin, and the proud grandparents of Chancellor; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The Nicholson's are both graduates of Lincoln
15 Senior High School in East St. Louis; Reverend Nicholson
16 received a Bachelor of Arts degree from American Baptist
17 College and a Divinity degree from Eden Theological Seminary;
18 Evelyn Nicholson attended St. Louis University and graduated
19 from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville with a Bachelor
20 of Arts degree in Sociology and a Master of Arts degree in
21 Counseling Education; and

1     WHEREAS, The respect for marriage reaches one of its
2 highest plateaus when a couple such as Reverend Henry and
3 Evelyn Nicholson celebrate their golden wedding anniversary;
4 and
 
5     WHEREAS, Reverend Henry and Evelyn Nicholson stand as
6 examples of the best of our society, and their love and
7 devotion to each other and to their family and friends serve as
8 a reminder to all that hard work, dedication, and love can make
9 a difference in today's world; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 congratulate Reverend Henry and Evelyn Nicholson on the
13 occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary; that we commend
14 them for achieving a long and happy marriage, blessed with
15 children and grandchildren, and rich in friendships; and that
16 we wish them happiness and good health in the future; and be it
17 further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to Reverend Henry and Evelyn Nicholson as an
20 expression of our respect and esteem.
