HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the
4 Quincy Symphony Orchestra on the occasion of the symphony's
5 60th anniversary; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The Quincy Symphony Orchestra was established by
7 George M. Irwin in 1947; the "Quincy Little Symphony", as the
8 symphony was named in its early years, was composed of a few
9 local, yet accomplished, musicians; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Over the last 60 years, the Quincy Symphony
11 Orchestra has hosted over 440 guest artists, including 130
12 Young Artists and well-known performers Victor Borge and
13 Michelle Crider; over 1,350 musicians within the Quincy
14 community have performed in the orchestra and over 250 members
15 of the community have served on its Board of Directors; over 90
16 people are involved with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra every
17 year; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The Quincy Symphony Orchestra has had seven music
19 directors since 1947; these directors are George M. Irwin,
20 Harold G. Bauer, Crawford Gates, Thom Ritter George, Jack
21 Ranney, Clyde Bassett, and Bruce Briney; and

1     WHEREAS, The members of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra have
2 exhibited a passion for music that serves as a source of
3 inspiration and joy to local musicians and music lovers alike;
4 therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate the members of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra on
8 the occasion of the symphony's 60th anniversary and wish the
9 members continued success and happiness in the future; and be
10 it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to a representative of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra
13 as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
