HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Howard L. Miller of
4 Aurora on being inducted into the Tuskegee University Athletic
5 Hall of Fame; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Howard L. Miller enrolled at Tuskegee University
7 in the fall of 1962 after completing a highly successful four
8 year career as quarterback at Cobb High School, Aniston,
9 Alabama; he continued his legacy by earning the quarterback
10 position as a freshman with the Golden Tiger football squad;
11 and
 
12     WHEREAS, As a member of the Golden Tiger team his accuracy
13 and deep passes earned him colorful nicknames such as "the Mad
14 Bomber", "The Rifleman", "The Gun Slinger", and "Y.A. Tittle";
15 from the position of quarterback Howard Miller lettered each of
16 his four years of play with a won/lost record of 20-10-2; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Howard Miller was also credited with having the
18 most touchdown passes to a single wide receiver, the most
19 touchdown passes in a game, and the most multiple touchdowns
20 passes; these were incredible statistics for a player who was
21 only 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed 160 pounds; and

1     WHEREAS, Howard Miller was active in campus life as a
2 student while at Tuskegee, working with the Tuskegee Institute
3 Community Education Program (TICEP), Huntington Hall
4 renovation, voter registration, and the political campaign
5 which helped to elect the first African-American Sheriff in
6 Macon County; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Howard Miller's professional career was filled
8 with many accolades and honors, one of which was being the
9 first African-American to work in the Applications Department
10 at the Henry Pratt Whitney Company in Aurora; he is involved
11 with several professional, social, and civic organizations
12 which include Junior Achievement, community softball coach,
13 the NAACP, Urban League Main Baptist Church hospital ministry,
14 and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; he also served a tour of duty in
15 the United States Army from 1967 through 1969; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 congratulate Howard Miller on being inducted into the Tuskegee
19 University Athletic Hall of Fame; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to Howard Miller as a symbol of our respect and
22 admiration.
