HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the faculty, staff, and students of Link Elementary School in Elk Grove Village on the occasion of being named as one of the top schools in the nation at the U.S. Department of Education's No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School ceremony in November of 2007; and

WHEREAS, The No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools program recognizes schools that make significant progress in closing the achievement gap or whose students achieve at very high levels; the program selects schools with at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that dramatically improve student performance on state tests or schools whose students, regardless of background, achieve in the top 10 percent of their state on state tests; and

WHEREAS, Link Elementary School was one of 287 schools in the nation named a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School in 2007; Link School was selected as a school that achieves in the top 10 percent of Illinois schools on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) given each spring; and

WHEREAS, The mission of Link Elementary School is to inspire every student, "to think, to learn, to achieve and to care"; the school has committed itself to helping students develop the capacity for learning so that they can live effectively in a complex and diverse world; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of the progress Link Elementary School has made, the school will receive an award certificate as part of the Blue Ribbon Schools program; Principal Barbara Schremser and sixth-grade teacher Katie Schneider will travel to Washington, D.C., for the official awards ceremony on November 12 and 13, 2007; and

WHEREAS, The dedication and capability of the faculty and staff of Link Elementary School is invaluable to the efforts of the State of Illinois to provide the best education for its children; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the faculty, staff, and students of Link Elementary School on being named a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Link Elementary School Principal Barbara Schremser as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
