HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the members of the Illinois House of Representatives that Michael Madden, Director of the Schaumburg Township District Library, is celebrating his 40th anniversary in that position; and

WHEREAS, Michael Madden began his career with the library in 1967; he received Bachelor of Arts in English from Marquette University in 1960, a Certificate in Publishing from Radcliffe College/Harvard University in 1960, a Master of Arts in English from Loyola University in 1963, and a Master of Arts in Library Science from the University of Chicago in 1967; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his position as Library Director, Mr. Madden is also a teacher, author, and active member of the Schaumburg Business Association; and

WHEREAS, He is a past recipient of the Librarian of the Year award from the Illinois Library Association; and

WHEREAS, In 2006 Michael Madden received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the North Suburban Library System (NSLS); the award is "designed to honor outstanding individuals who have made substantial contributions to the library profession and the NSLS community over the entire course of their professional life"; and

WHEREAS, Michael Madden is also a member of the American Library Association, the Illinois Library Association, and the Rotary Club of Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Michael Madden on this anniversary and wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Michael Madden as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
