HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Due to their Japanese lineage, many patriotic
3 Americans were treated as enemies after the bombing of Pearl
4 Harbor in 1941; these Americans, known as "Nisei", or second
5 generation Japanese Americans, fought to prove their loyalties
6 to this nation by entering the United States Army, numbering in
7 the thousands in a stunning example of bravery and patriotism;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, The bravery and determination of the thousands of
10 Nisei is well-documented, with such units as the 100th / 442nd
11 Regimental Combat Team, one of the most awarded and acclaimed
12 units in American history, and the Military Intelligence
13 Service, which saved innumerable lives using their knowledge of
14 Japanese language and culture to bring a swift end to World War
15 II in the Pacific theater; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The incredible acts of sacrifice and valor
17 exhibited by these men are worthy of the greatest respect and
18 admiration and must not be forgotten by subsequent generations;
19 therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22 urge the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee and the United

1 States Postmaster General to honor the "Nisei", who fought
2 bravely against the Japanese during World War II, with a U.S.
3 postage stamp in their honor; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
5 presented to the members of the Citizens Stamp Advisory
6 Committee and United States Postmaster General John E. Potter.
