HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize Countryside Fire
4 Captain Mike Hodges on the occasion of his retirement after 36
5 years of fire service; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mike Hodges first joined the Countryside Fire
7 Department in October of 1971, at the age of 18; he served as a
8 volunteer/paid on-call firefighter; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mike Hodges was hired as one of Countryside Fire
10 Department's first full-time staffers in 1975, and was assigned
11 Badge #54; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mike Hodges became a Lieutenant in November of
13 1982, and a Captain in February of 1993; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The majority of Captain Hodges' career since 1993
15 was spent as the shift commander of Black Shift, where he was
16 fondly known as "Uncle Mike"; and
 
17     WHEREAS, As head of the Countryside Fire Department vehicle
18 maintenance department, Captain Hodges spent endless hours
19 preparing department vehicles for inspection and ensuring that
20 the Countryside Fire Department always received the highest

1 marks; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Captain Hodges always participated in the Lake
3 County Convention Water Fights and was a distinguished teammate
4 in the three and five man hook-up, the bucket brigade, and the
5 water fights; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Captain Hodges responded to or was involved in
7 over ten thousand calls during his career; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Captain Hodges' wife, Colleen, and their
9 children, Mike, Brianne, and Ben, who are also cherished
10 members of the Countryside family, sacrificed countless nights
11 away from Mike and missed many holidays and birthdays with him
12 when duty called; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 thank Captain Hodges for his dedication to the people and the
16 community of the Countryside Fire District and wish him well in
17 his retirement; and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to Captain Mike Hodges as a symbol of our respect.
