HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Matteson Elementary School District 162 Superintendent Blondean Davis on the occasion of being named the 2008 Illinois Superintendent of the Year by the Illinois Association of School Administrators; and

WHEREAS, Blondean Davis was appointed as Superintendent of Matteson Elementary School District 162 in 2002; during her tenure as superintendent, the district has increased its Illinois Standards Achievement Test scores 45 percent since 2001 and increased the district's 2007 composite ISAT score to 80 percent; and

WHEREAS, Superintendent Blondean Davis served as day-to-day manager in the Chicago Public Schools from 1995 to 2001 before serving in her current position in Matteson Elementary School District 162, a position that greatly aided her ability to lead the district to new heights of greatness; and

WHEREAS, Blondean Davis's great vision as superintendent and her designation as Superintendent of the Year helps to disprove the unfair expectation that children of color in communities of poverty are unable to meet or exceed learning standards within this State and across the nation and has proven that all children are able to learn in school as long as everyone involved believe in the children and do what is necessary to teach them what they need to know to achieve excellence; and

WHEREAS, Superintendent Blondean Davis is slated to give a presentation at the Illinois Association of School Administrators state conference in April of 2008, where she will hopefully impart some of her great wisdom to the other school administrators in attendance; she is also entered into the National Superintendent of the Year competition in December of 2007, where she will serve as a representative of this great State as one of its finest educators; and

WHEREAS, Superintendent Blondean Davis and her methods of leadership serve as examples of what all schools should aspire to, a gold standard of quality education in the State of Illinois and the nation at large; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Superintendent Blondean Davis on the occasion of being named the 2008 Illinois Superintendent of the Year and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Blondean Davis as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
