HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the staff, faculty, students, and parents of Marissa Junior and Senior High School on the occasion of receiving a bronze medal from US News and World Report for its "America's Best High Schools" competition; and

WHEREAS, US News and World Report analyzed 18,790 public high schools in 40 states using data from the 2005-2006 school year to determine "America's Best High Schools"; in determining this list, US News and World Report judged whether each school's students were performing better than statistically expected for the average student in their state, whether the school's least-advantaged students, namely African-American, Hispanic, and low-income students, were performing better than average for similar students in the state, and the degree to which the school assists its students in preparing for college; and

WHEREAS, Marissa Junior and Senior High School performed admirably in its assessment of its test scores and student performance, earning a bronze medal for its outstanding work; and

WHEREAS, Marissa Junior and Senior High School's administration, teachers, students, and parents should be proud of the hard work and dedication they have exhibited in making this school the shining example of academic achievement that it is; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the staff, faculty, students, and parents of Marissa Junior and Senior High School on its bronze medal victory and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of Marissa Junior and Senior High School as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
