SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Sandra Blount, who passed away on June 22, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Sandra Blount was born on June 7, 1941; her parents were Clayton and Eleanor Tidwell; and

WHEREAS, Sandra Blount was employed with the City of Chicago for nearly 4 decades; she began her career as a public servant on April 19, 1965 in a clerical position; she steadily moved through the ranks and had become Assistant Director of Personnel of the Chicago Department of Human Services, remaining there until her retirement on May 1, 2004; she was described by her co-workers as an ambitious, faithful, and trustworthy executive with exceptional leadership skills; and

WHEREAS, Sandra Blount was preceded in death by her parents; and

WHEREAS, Sandra Blount is survived by her daughter, Sonya; her son-in-law, Chicago Police Officer Anthony Walker; her grandchildren, Anthony Walker Jr. and Symone; and her siblings, Mrs. Syvilla Woods and Jacqueline; and

WHEREAS, Sandra Blount will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a people person who was sensitive and very understanding and as a knowledgeable, articulate, professional, religious, and dignified woman who was never too busy to help people with their problems; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Sandra Blount; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sandra Blount as an expression of our sympathy.
