SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Roosevelt Collins Jr. of Chicago, who
4 passed away on February 11, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Roosevelt Collins Jr. was born on April 15, 1947
6 in Norwood, Louisiana; his parents were Ira Mae Banks-Forman
7 and Charlie Forman Sr.; Roosevelt Collins Jr. was baptized at
8 an early age and became a member of Evergreen Baptist Church in
9 Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and
 
10     WHEREAS, He graduated from Capital High in Baton Rouge,
11 Louisiana in 1965; in 1969 he came to Chicago and began his
12 career as a brick mason, and in 1972 became a member of the
13 Bricklayers and Stone Masons Local 21 of Illinois; he enjoyed
14 the art of laying bricks and stones for 34 years and he was
15 known by other brick masons as one of the best in the business;
16 during his career as a brick mason he crossed paths with
17 several guys that he recognized as his buddies, Charlie, Vest
18 and Mr. Hunter; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Roosevelt Collins Jr. was united in holy matrimony
20 to Patricia Lindsey-Kates on December 30, 1994; in 1995 they
21 joined Greater New Jerusalem M.B. Church; he began an early
22 retirement in 2005 and would walk to Monterey Hardware every

1 morning to hang out with the fellows; he also enjoyed getting
2 up early mornings to prepare to go fishing with one or all of
3 the fishermen, Mr. Hamilton, Dinky, Lee, and William; and
 
4     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his mother and father
5 Ira Mae and Charlie Forman Sr. and Roosevelt "Honey" Collins;
6 his son Dejuan Depree Collins; and his two sisters Elizabeth
7 Jarrell and Josephine Forman; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Roosevelt Collins Jr. leaves to cherish his
9 memory: his devoted wife, Patricia Kates-Collins; his
10 daughters Rochelle Collins and Theresa Moore; his son Troy Lee
11 Kates III; his brothers, Charles Edward (Wanda), Charlie
12 (Kathy), Joe "Tiny", and John Forman; his sister Carolyn
13 Stewart (Bennie); his sister, Mary Smith (Clifford); his
14 brother Robert; his seven grandchildren; and a host of aunties,
15 uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and
16 friends; therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 his family and friends, the passing of Roosevelt Collins Jr.;
20 and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to the family of Roosevelt Collins Jr. as a symbol of
