SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Naperville Police Officer Donald "D.J."
4 Andries, a fifteen-year resident of Oswego, who passed away on
5 December 13, 2008; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born March 10, 1961 in Chicago; he was a
7 graduate of Deerfield High School and he served in the United
8 States Navy for nine years, serving on the USS New Orleans; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He served with the Naperville Police Department
10 for sixteen years; he worked as a field training officer, Honor
11 Guard member, and beat officer in the patrol division; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He was also a member of the police department's
13 Elderly Services Team and the elementary school reading program
14 at Scott School; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He was called the "Gentle Giant" because of his
16 height of 6 foot, 5 inches and his gentle and relaxed demeanor
17 that put people at ease; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Donald "D.J." Andries is survived by his loving
19 wife of 24 years, Mary (nee McNellis); his devoted sons, Second
20 Lieutenant Timothy Joseph Andries and Brian Donald Andries; his

1 parents, Donald and Dorothy (Delacoma) Andries, Sr.; his
2 brothers, Daniel Albert (Ann), David Delacoma (Paula), and
3 Darrill James Andries; his brothers and sisters-in-law, John,
4 Patrick, Thomas, Eileen McNellis, Clare Mitchell, and Laura
5 Zuzuly; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8 his family, friends, and community, the passing of Officer
9 Donald "D.J." Andries; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Officer Donald "D.J." Andries as a
12 symbol of our sincere sympathy.
