HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas E. "Tom" Sanders of Spring Grove, who passed away on July 1, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Tom Sanders was born to George and Maxine (Bolt) Sanders in Woodstock on March 22, 1953; he graduated from Richmond-Burton High School in 1971; he married Mary Clettenberg at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lake Zurich on June 4, 1977; and

WHEREAS, Tom Sanders began his career in law enforcement at the McHenry County Sheriff's Department in 1978, retiring as a sergeant; he served as the chief of police of Spring Grove from 2007 until his retirement in 2021; and

WHEREAS, Tom Sanders devoted much of his life towards serving his community, acting as a village trustee from 1992 until 2005 and as village president from 2005 until 2007; he also served as a volunteer firefighter; and

WHEREAS, Tom Sanders founded and served as president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 118, organizing the group's yearly fundraising golf outing for more than 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Tom Sanders was known for his quick wit and being a true family man who loved spending time with his family; and

WHEREAS, Tom Sanders was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Sandra Londberg and Georgie Gritzuk; and his brother, Bob Sanders; and

WHEREAS, Tom Sanders is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary; his children, Ehren, Kiel (Laura), and Ashley Sanders; his grandchildren, Lilly, Ava, Mia, and Zoe; his brother, Mike (the late Cheryl) Sanders; his sister-in-law, Donna Sanders; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Thomas E. "Tom" Sanders and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Tom Sanders as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
